About Jovon

Jovon is the Native Apps Design Director at a Fortune 10 company. She manages an international, multi-disciplined team of designers and strategists who transform complex business objectives into simple customer experiences. She is also an adjunct professor teaching interaction design to visual communication majors at a Seattle-area university.

A self-taught designer, Jovon’s practiced design & coding since receiving her first computer at the age of 9. By 16, her hobby gained recognition as talent. While interning for a finance company she was encouraged to consider a career in design but due to her lack of exposure to the arts, she didn’t realize it a viable career option, so ended up pursuing a degree in business.

Her professional career began in Los Angeles where she landed her first job in marketing at a national law firm; but by this time she knew design was her calling. She launched a freelance business to serve as her creative outlet. Early work included album art and websites for various music artists, fashion designers and movies, a pitch she developed and designed for an artist which lead to him securing a deal with Capitol Records, and various print design projects for the NBA, Johnson & Johnson and the NBDL. While working at an entertainment management firm, she also collaborated with the A&R departments of Def Jam and Columbia Records for various artists’ projects.

Jovon holds leadership/advisory positions with several non-profits related to design and or tech, most are youth-centered. Given her circuitous path to design, Jovon is committed to being the adult/mentor she needed. She’s regarded as an advisor by peers and direct reports and receives top ratings from her students. Jovon is committed to helping young designers in her local design community. She welcomes opportunities to share her journey through what felt like uncharted territory with the goal of making that experience easier for the next underexposed, underrepresented emerging designer.
